Jaguars’ Trober motivated to finish prep career on top

Blue Springs South’s Mya Trober used the personal disappointment of the way her junior season ended to her advantage this year. After finishing out of all-state consideration following a strong regular season in 2020, she used that as motivation to fuel a senior year that resulted in a team state title and her second straight Examiner Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year award.

Broncos’ Clancy caps career with top honor

Lee’s Summit North cross country runner Carson Clancy described his senior season as “average.” But what he called “average” was better than most as Clancy earned the only all-state honor by an Eastern Jackson County runner to cap off a season in which he has been named The Examiner’s 2021 Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year. “It means a lot to me, because I thought my season was average,” Clancy said.

NFL may be trendsetter for testing

The NFL’s decision to reduce COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic, vaccinated players could signal a trend for pro sports leagues and provide an example for society to follow heading into 2022. Despite a rising number of positive cases that forced three games to be rescheduled over the weekend, the NFL, in cooperation with the players’ union, agreed on Saturday to scale back testing for vaccinated players.

Young Eagles help hold off Truman

The Grain Valley girls basketball thrived, then survived a wild 58-48 roller-coaster ride of a Suburban Middle Six Conference win over host Truman Friday. The joint was jumping as Grace Slaughter scored 17 of her game-high 26 points in the first half and the Eagles went into the locker room with a 37-12 lead.
