Cripps to speak

at Stone Church

LaDora Cripps will speak on the theme, “Holy Spirit, Dwell with Us,” at the 10:20 a.m. worship service on Sunday at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence.

Dennis Sharier will preside. Others participating include Ray McClaran, Sherry McClaran, Charity Doss, Karen Cross and Amy Sharier. Music will be provided by Lucinda Kincaid, Paulette V. Resch and Clare Vlahos.

studying James

Independence First Christian is starting a new sermon series from the book of James entitled, “Maturing in Christ” and begins Sunday for both the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services. Topics are as follows:

Sunday – Resurrecting a living faith – 2:14-26.

• May 8 – The power of the tongue – 3:1-12.

• May 15 – Learning to be a friend of God – 4:1-10.

• May 22 – Three Commandments of Maturity – 4:11-5:6.

• May 29 – Three Steps to Spiritual Success/Maturity – 5:7-20.

Community meal

at Glenwood Park

Glenwood Park United Methodist Church is offering Defeat Hunger, a free community meal, at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, 10000 E. 23rd St., Independence.

A free health clinic will also be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 7. The screenings, sponsored by the Black Nurse Association and the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index testing.
