Lake City Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center is offering the following programs. The Center is at 28505 E. Truman Road in Buckner. Registration is required, call 816-249-3194 or email 

• Effective Wing Shooting, for ages 12 and older, 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 6 or 7. If you'd like to improve your wing shooting skills using non-toxic shot, this class is for you. Learn the proper way to select the best ammunition and choke combination for different migratory and upland game bird hunting; latest technology on non-toxic shotgun ammunition; and, how to judge distances and properly patterning your shotgun. 

• Basic Pistol, for ages 18 and older, 8 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 15. This is a novice class for people who have little or no experience in handling and shooting a handgun. Topics include safety in the home, types of handguns, different parts of the handgun, the variety of calibers, ammunition and marksmanship. Class includes range time. 

• Family Trap Shooting, for ages 12 and older, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 16. Trap shooting is a fun shooting sport to experience. The course will cover basic firearm safety, different actions on shotguns, proper shot size, proper firearm fit and shot follow through. Trap is a good way for an upland game hunter to improve their shotgun skills. 

• Introduction to Skeet Shooting, for ages 12 and older, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 22. If you're a trap shooter who wants an exciting and quicker target game, why not try skeet shooting? Skeet shooting is a great way to improve your basic shotgun skills and improve your hit ratio on all types of winged game.
