The City of Independence Environmental Health Division conducts inspections anywhere food is handled, prepared and served to the public within city limits. Critical violations must be handled within 72 hours. 

Elite Cuisine, 20301 E. Missouri 78 – On Nov. 15, there was no paper towels at either hand sink in the back area. 

Lucky Buffet, 2931 S. Noland Road – On Nov. 17, shrimp found on drain board was 58.6 degrees; discarded. The Mongolian buffet found not at the temperature; employee stated that this had just been turned on. The back door had a large space between the threshold and the door allowing sunlight in, it was also large enough to allow pests of all kinds to enter the facility; must be repaired within 30 days. The Party Room had a large amount of debris and trash; clean. A gallon of Windex was found on the bottom of the prep table next to a 5 gallon jug of cooking oil. 

Dickey's Barbecue Pit, 1348 S. Noland Road – On Nov. 18, the scale used to weigh out meat portions was heavily soiled; a different barrier must be used between each portion to prevent cross contamination. And employee was observed attempting to change gloves without first washing her hands. The dispensing hoses on the 3-compartment sink was below the water line; cut to create an air gap. The hand sink in the ware washing area was blocked by a cart, had a sanitation bucket in the basin and a cloth draped over the faucet; hand sinks must be accessible at all times. No employee on duty had an Independence Food Manager card, the store will face possible temporary closure on next occurrence. All employees must have either a valid handler card or Independence Food Manager card on file by Dec. 14.
