Egg hunt at First Church of God 

The First Church of God will be holding an Easter Egg Hunt and Resurrection Path Story on Saturday, April 8, 220 E. Elm St., Independence. 

The activities will begin at 10 a.m. in the church parking lot. Age categories are 3-5 years old, 6-9 years old and 10-14 years old. Be sure and bring a basket.

Beacon Heights holds Easter eggstravaganza

You're invited to a Easter eggstravaganza from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Beacon Heights Community of Christ, 19402 E. Holke Road, Independence. This free event includes an indoor egg hunt, a visit from a bunny for pictures, crafts and face painting.

Church women's spring fling Saturday 

Church Women United will hold their Spring Fling from 10 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Good Shepherd Community of Christ Church, 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City.

This craft show, bake sale and hot dog/chili event will benefit Church Women United's scholarship fund. For more information, call 651-9528. 

 

Easter coloring book contest Saturday

Grace and Truth Church in Independence is holding an Easter coloring book contest for preschool to high school children, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 8.

Put your coloring skills into play, and be entered for a chance to win. Winners will be announced during our Easter service on April 16, and you must be in attendance to collect your prize. After the service, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt. There will be first and second prize for ages preschool to second grade, third to seventh grade, and eighth to 12th grade.

St. Luke's UCC joins in Palm Sunday service 

St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Independence is participating in the City-wide Palm Sunday service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

They will also have 7 p.m. Good Friday service, and on Easter Sunday, there will be a Son Rise service at 9 a.m., Easter breakfast will be served by the Youth Group at 9:30 a.m., an Easter egg hunt for the children at 10:15 a.m., and Easter Worship at 10:45 a.m.

Holy Week services at Eastgate

Eastgate Christian Church in Independence will hold several special Holy Week services Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday. The services are:

• Palm Sunday: 10:25 a.m., the cantata “Come and See His Glory,” the procession of palms and Holy Communion.

• Maundy Thursday: 7 p.m., Experience the Table, plus a dramatic recreation of events, special music and Holy Communion.

• Good Friday: 7 p.m., Experience the Cross, which reflects Jesus' journey from trial through crucifixion using visual images, narration and music.

• Holy Saturday, April 15: 8 p.m., Experience the Emptiness, featuring stories of God’s acts of power and salvation, the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion.

• Easter Sunday, April 16: 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., special music and Holy Communion. Rev. Joshua Patty draws lessons from Christ’s resurrection and the conclusion of the book of Job in the sermon, “Restoration and Resurrection.”

St. Luke's Lenten study continues

St. Luke's United Church of Christ has been hosting a Lenten study on Tuesday evenings, and the final study is this Tuesday. The Rev. Paul Emily is leading the study.

The study is about opening your heart to the Holy Spirit through a better understanding of the Trinity. A portion of the study will be supplemented by viewing and discussing “The Shack.” The evening will begin with a Meager Meal at 6:30 p.m., followed by a brief introduction of the topic and then group discussion.

St. Mark's Catholic Church golf tourney planned

St. Mark’s is holding its 13th annual Golf Tournament April 28 at Adams Pointe Golf Course in Blue Springs. The shotgun start is at 8 a.m.

Proceeds will benefit St. Mark the Evangelist Youth Group in Independence.

Messiah Lutheran hosts spring rally

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Missouri District Kansas City South Zone Spring Rally will be held April 29, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 S. Main St., Independence. The rally theme is “Our Leaves of Springtime.”

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and opening devotion is at 9:30 a.m. “Gifts of the Heart” will be monetary donations for the care of Jessy the Comfort Dog from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Concordia, Mo.

Yard sale May 6 at Unity

Unity of Independence is holding its 3rd annual Yard/Trunk Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6, at the church, 14304 E. 39th St., Independence.

However, they are advertising now for people who have items they wish to sell. They are renting out parking spots and everyone sells directly from their car or trunk.
