1 Calligraphy Exhibition: Elegant Illustration of Written Word – The art of calligraphy across Asia unveils the most prestigious art form of Asia, where calligraphy is held in greater esteem than painting or sculpture. The exhibition runs through July 8, 2018, at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, 45th and Oak streets, Kansas City. More than Words: Ranging in date from circa 1200 B.C.E. to the present, spanning Iraq to Japan, the exhibition includes a 9th-10th-century Qu’ran folio in the elegant Kufic script in ink and gold, a 17th-century Armenian manuscript of the Four Gospels by Mesrop of Xizan, and a rare Mongrol passport inlaid in silver in ‘Phags-pa script, a language now dead, and much more. 3 Calling all runners – The 5th annual Turkey Trot 5K run/walk and 1-mile fun run, a benefit for Lee’s Summit Social Services, Operation Breakthrough and the Our Lady of the Presentation School Library, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Unity Village, 1901 NW Blue Parkway. The event will include music, food and a Kids Zone. Registration is $30 per participant; $25 for those 65 and older; and $20 for ages 14 and under. Awards will be given to the top male and female, as well as the first and second place finisher in each age group. The year is 1862, and imagine if you will, Confederate forces have established clandestine recruiting camps in the area. The Union forces must get vital information to deal with this intrusion. A loyal Union spy has gathered this critical information and has hidden it somewhere in the Cave Hotel. As loyal unionists posing as travelers, you must find this critical information and pass it along to military headquarters. But, the prying eyes of hotel proprietress Lucinda Cave, a southern sympathizer, are watching. If she suspects who you are, you will face the wrath of William Quantrell.
