The old A&P at U.S. 24 and Spring in Independence, as seen in The Examiner 50 years ago this week. Mid-Continent Public Library officials were deciding whether to move the Independence branch off the Square. Ultimately they did, forgoing plan for a new building at Truman Road and Main Street. Today the North Independence branch still stands at the site of the old grocery store.
