INDEPENDENCE RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS

Critical violations involve factors that can directly lead to foodborne illness and must be corrected within 72 hours or as otherwise stated. All critical violations must be corrected within 72 hours (or as otherwise stated on the report). All non-critical violations must be corrected by the next regular inspection (or as otherwise stated on the report).

Recent city of Independence inspections include:

Staybridge Suites: 19400 E. 39th Place S., inspected March 1.

Time/temperature requirements are not met. Hard boiled eggs not being held at temperature. Eggs were discarded. Corrected March 1.

Food temperature measuring device noted not available in coolers. Corrected March 1.

Physical facilities shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean. (1) Floors dirty with buildup and debris. (2) Exteriors of coolers and freezers noted having buildup and debris. Corrected March 1.(3) Interiors of coolers dirty with debris and buildup. Corrected March 1.

Mugs-Up Drive-In: 700 E. 23rd St., inspected Feb. 28.

All non-food contact and food contact surfaces must be kept clean and sanitized. (1) Freezer in basement dirty with buildup. (2) Vent hood dirty with buildup.

Chick-Fil-A: 18785 E. 39th St., inspected Feb. 28.

Drinks found in prep area that could result in contamination of food product. Corrected Feb. 28. Individual, disposable paper towels noted not at each hand sink. Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. (1) Hand sink dirty with grime and buildup. (2) Floors near fryers dirty with debris and grease buildup. (3) Walls near battering station dirty with buildup and debris.

Wendy’s: 2528 S. Missouri 291, inspected March 1.

All employees must obtain valid food handler cards by March 16. Failure to do so could result in removal from schedule, ticket and/or fine.

Sanitizing solution noted not being tested for accuracy. Concentration of the sanitizing solution shall be accurately determined by using a test kit or other device. Corrected March 1.

Chili’s Grill and Bar: 18900 E. 39th St., inspected Feb. 28.

All employees must obtain valid food handler card by March 15. Failure to do so could result in removal from schedule, ticket and/or fine.

Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. (1) Chips and debris on floor under chip station. (2) Debris and buildup underneath prep tables.

All non-food contact and food contact surfaces must be kept clean and sanitized. (1) Grease buildup underneath grill. (2) Chute on ice machine dirty with buildup.

Gnat found floating in liquor at bar. Corrected 28. The premises shall be maintained free of insects, rodents, and other pests.

Panda Express: 18813 E. 39th St., inspected March 7.

Buildup on ice machine chute. All non-food contact and food contact surfaces must be kept clean and sanitized.

Glendale Elementary School: 2611 Lee’s Summit Road, inspected March 7.

Equipment is not in good repair. Electrical tape on dishwashing machine holding front panel on.

Captain D’s: 1321 S. Noland Road, inspected March 9.

Ice machine door seal falling off. Reach-in cooler and freezer interiors dirty with buildup.

Employees must obtain valid food handler card by March 24. Failure to do so could result in removal from schedule, ticket and/or fine.

Spring Branch Elementary School: 20404 E. Truman Road, inspected March 8. No violations found.

Hardee’s: 16800 E. Gudgell Ave., inspected March 8.

Employees without valid food handler cards. All employees must obtain a valid Independence food handler card by March 23. Failure to do so could result in removal from schedule, ticket, and/or fine. Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. (1) Floors around fryers dirty with excessive grease buildup, and debris. (2) Cabinet of prep cooler dirty with excessive debris and buildup. (3) Caulking around hand sink dirty and cracking. (4) Toaster oven dirty with buildup and debris. (5) Shelving dirty with buildup and debris.

Blackburn Elementary School: 17302 R.D. Mize Road, inspected March 8. No violations found.

Little Blue Elementary School: 2020 S. Quail Dr., inspected March 9. No violations found.

Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell: 4210 S. Noland Road, inspected March 9.

Employees must obtain valid food handler card by March 24. Failure to do so could result in removal from schedule, ticket and/or fine.

Physical facilities not cleaned as often as necessary. Floor of walk-in freezer dirty with debris.
