Leona Maxine Tennison, 87, a resident of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away peacefully Saturday, November 12, 2022, at her home surrounded by fami ly. She was born December 12, 1934, to John and Beatrice (LaDuke) Kilpatrick in Pueblo, Colo.
Leona spent her working career in education for the Independence School District. She started out as an elementary teacher and then spearheaded the Impact Program for gifted students. Leona was united in marriage to Lawrence Tennison on January 13, 1953, in Pueblo. She was a member of the Sante Fe Doll Club, Pilot Club of Blue Springs, Women’s Civic Club of Independence, she volunteered as an election poll judge. Leona also volunteered at the Bingham-Waggoner Estate where she provided tours and luncheons. She enjoyed painting china, oil painting, making dolls, knitting, crocheting, and traveling.
Survived by her children, Larry Tennison and wife Jean of Blue Springs, Laura Hile of Blue Springs; sister, Lorraine Woods and husband Robert of Pueblo; grandchildren, Tina Hile, Angela Hile, Jenny Adams, Lawrence “Boomer” Tennison; great-grandchildren, Brice, Natalie, and Allison. Leona is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and son-in-law, Bob Durkin.
Her family will receive family and friends from 4 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs. Sharing of memories will begin at 5 p.m. at the chapel.
