Three people have been charged in connection in with a Sunday morning disturbance and brief standoff in western Grain Valley.

Lucas Owens, 18, from Bonner Springs, Kansas, faces four felony charges from the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office – first-degree burglary, endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. Owens also was charged in Grain Valley Municipal Court with municipal drug possession charges, and he remains in custody at Jackson County Detention Center, pending arraignment.

In addition, 19-year-old Samantha Pleacher of Grain Valley and 23-year-old Gabriel Leal of Kansas City, Kansas, face Grain Valley Municipal Court charges for resisting arrest and interfering with a police investigation.

According to Grain Valley Police, they responded at approximately 7:10 a.m. Sunday for a reported disturbance with shots fired at the 1600 block of Northwest Hilltop Lane, a small residential area in western Grain Valley north of Interstate 70. When they reached the residence they found a juvenile victim of an assault involving a firearm, though the victim suffered no injuries.

Owens, Pleacher and Leal were inside the residence and refused police orders to exit, and units from Grain Valley, Oak Grove, Blue Springs, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department set up a suspect barricade operation. After phone negotiations, the three suspects came out of the house about an hour later and were taken into custody without incident. Investigators found evidence of shots fired.

Police say the investigation continues and additional charges could be filed.
