Independence police say incident near Glendale Elementary School that led to stranger danger concern was a misunderstanding and that nothing criminal happened.
A woman saw a small boy walking along the street, crying. She was afraid he was being bullied. She asked if she could walk with him for a minute, and he said that was OK. She did that, and then they met up with another child. The boy seemed OK, and she let them go on their way.
The woman called police to explain what happened when word about stranger danger concerns was getting around.
Police remind everyone to be vigilant and report any activity that seems suspicious. They also encourage parents to walk their children to and from school or the bus stop and, with older children, encourage them to walk in groups.
