Marine operations troopers from the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Troop A in Lee’s Summit will conduct courtesy boat inspections at Longview, Smithville and Truman lakes as part of National Safe Boating Week.

The inspections will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 21. They will take place at Longview Lake Boat Ramp, Smithville Lake West Boat Ramp and Shawnee Bend Boat Ramp at Truman Lake. Troopers will verify that boaters have required equipment on board their boat, answer boating questions and provide a Patrol inspection sticker if the boater is in compliance. There is no cost for those participating.

“A thorough inspection of your boat is recommended prior to taking it out on the water,” Captain Scott Shipers, Troop A commanding officer, said in a news release. “Weather, time, and other elements may affect the readiness of your boat. These boat inspections are a great opportunity to insure you will be safe while enjoying the many lakes and rivers in our area.”
