The Young Matrons of Independence celebrate a milestone today.
The group’s 75th anniversary celebration is this evening at the Hilton Garden Inn in Independence.
The group was founded in 1940 with the goal of combining civic involvement and cultural life in the city. Its activities over the years have included sponsoring an antique show at the first Santa-Cali-Gon Days in 1940, raising money for the city’s first klndergarten program, pushing for a city library, gathering clothing for “Bundles for Britain” during World War II as well as today’s annual Holly & Mistletoe Homes Tour and the Children’s Theatre, which this year put on “Cinderella” for 4,000 students.
