A senior from Van Horn High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

Vanessa Hernandez Muzo has received the McCoy Award, which goes to the top 50 students in a class. She is active in the National Technical Honors Society and Health Foundations Team competition, where she won second with the school’s biomedical team. She received a Gold award - honor roll, and has 90 percent or more attendance, and is a certified nursing assistant.

She played soccer her freshmand and sophomore years.

She plans to be a registered nurse and work in the intensive care unit.

Her parents are Hilda Salama and Alfonso Hernandez.
