Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two suspects in Independence early Friday morning following chase from Lafayette County that involved shots fired at officers.
According to the sheriff's office, 26-year-old Tyler Hale fired several shots at pursuing officers while driving as he fled Higginsville Police and Lafayette County Sheriff’s deputies. Higginsville Police had tried to arrest Hale on felony warrants. Officers later discovered Hale had an infant passenger during the chase.
Nobody was injured in the shooting.
Jackson County deputies had taken over the chase when it crossed the county line. The chase ended in the area of 23rd and Harvard, just west of Sterling Avenue in Independence, and the driver tried to escape on foot but was caught a short distance away. A female suspect who had remained in vehicle also was arrested, and the infant was taken into protective custody.
Hale and the arresting deputy suffered minor injuries during the arrest and were taken to the hospital for treatment. They are expected to make full recoveries.
