Two seniors from Fort Osage High Scool have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.
• Alex Vaoifi is student body president at Fort Osage High School and has received KU's Midwest Student Exchange Scholarship of $42,368. She is active in Student Council, her LDS youth group, Skills USA, and Varsity Scholar Bowl. She also is wrestling manager.
She plans to attend the University of Kansas to earn a bachelor's degree in human biology with a career interest in pre-med. She wants to apply to medical school at Kansas or Baylor University, specializing in oncology.
Her parents are Bo Vaoifi and Anna Vaoifi.
• Andrew Mead, the son of Barry and Krista Mead, has been in National Honor Society for three years, a Scholar Athlete for two years and is on the honor roll and in the A+ Program. He also has been active in baseball.
Outside of school, he works at St. John LaLande parochial school in the after-school Kids’ Club, he plays showcase baseball for the Inside Edge Baseball Academy, volunteers at Harvesters and previously was a volunteer buddy at the Exceptionals softball league.
He plans to attend college to study sports medicine or physical therapy, although he has not decided on a college. He would like to play baseball at the college level.
