The Second Chance Store, 11415 E. 23rd St. in Independence, held an open house last week to highlight its efforts to help local not-for-profit groups. The store, which opened in August, sells surplus or overstocked items from online retailers. Its lead non-profit partner is the Child Abuse Prevention Association in Independence, and other major partners are the Community Services League and TNC Community. The store has a new program called “Save and Share Because We Care.” A business selects a non-profit it wants to support, and when that business’s employees and others in its network shop at the store, they get 10 percent discount, and the non-profit gets 10 percent of the sale. | Jeff Fox/The Examiner
