The Mid-Continent Public Library system is continuing its series of public meetings on a large program of facilities improvements.
One meeting is at 7 this evening at the Blue Springs South branch, 2220 S. Missouri 7, and one is at 7 this evening at South Independence, 13700 E. 35th St.
Nearly all of Mid-Continent’s 31 branches across three counties are set for significant upgrades after voters last fall approved the library’s first levy increase in more than 30 years.
For instance, both Blue Springs branches get more public space and study rooms, the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence gets a 300-seat auditorium, Grain Valley gets a larger and permanent location, and the east side of Independence gets a new library.
Officials initially outlined a 10-year program for the improvements, but have said they would like to speed that timeline if they can. They are asking for public comments.
Other upcoming meetings:
• 7 p.m. April 13 at the Midwest Genealogy Center, 3440 S. Lee’s Summit Road in Independence.
• 7 p.m. April 27 at North Independence branch, 317 West U.S. 24,
• 7 p.m. April 20 at Blue Springs North, 850 N.W. Hunter Drive.
