All residents near a gas line break in eastern Lee's Summit have returned home after Missouri Gas Energy crews located and stopped the leak shortly after midnight Thursday.
According to the Lee's Summit Fire Department, MGE crews stopped the flow from an approximately 4-inch gas main at about 12:45 a.m. The line Todd George Parkway and Patterson Drive had been struck shortly after 3 p.m. by a private utility boring crew.
Fire personnel left the scene about 1 a.m., after monitoring the area into the night while MGE crews worked. Occupants of the two houses closest to the incident have been allowed to return home.
Due to gas concentrations found in the electrical conduits to the streetlights, the initial evacuation included about 20 homes. Many residents were allowed back home Wednesday night.
City officials said it is not known when MGE will make repairs to the line or when Todd George Parkway will reopen.
