Two seniors from Van Horn High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

• Mirinda "Mindy" Holthe has been a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholar since seventh grade and is a JKCF College Scholars Program semifinalist.

She is active in concert and marching bands, varsity concert choir and National Honor Society. She is an A+ Program tutor and directed the Pitch Perfect Project ensemble and was in the orchestra pit.

Outside of school, she was principal horn in the K.C. Youth Symphony, and was chosen for the K.C. all-district band, choir and orchestra. She is active in the Music Arts Institute and is an accompanist.

She plans to attend college to major in music performance/education focused on horn, and have a minor or double major in collaborative piano.

She is the granddaughter of Norma Holthe.

 

• Heisser Pujols has been active in the Raiders at Van Horn, Scholar Bowl, and HOSA.

Outside of school, he works at McDonald's and doees volunteer work at his church.

After going through basic training, he plans to start college, studying criminal justice as his major.

He is the son of Willy and Nenita Pujols.
