“Access Art” events are set for today at the North Independence branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library.

It’s an all-day event encouraging people to create art. The library is at 317 West U.S. 24 (the corner of U.S. 24 and Spring). Events include:

• “Dragons to Wear,” at 9 a.m., a drop-in workshop in which participants use paper construction to make a dragon hat.

• “Draw Like Van Gogh,” a kids event at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

• “Altered Book: Self-portrait,” 1 p.m., in which participants write, sketch, paint or make a collage to transform a book into a self-portrait.

• Winners in the “Read Around the World – Redesign Your Book Cover” contest will be on display. Independence students created new covers for their favorite books.
