Blue Springs police are investigating a racial slur painted overnight on the front of a local minority-owned barber shop.
The owners of Turn-N-Headz barber shop, 782 U.S. 40, arrived Wednesday to find the slur painted on their portion of a commercial building at the southwest corner U.S. 40 and Missouri 7.
Jennifer Dachenhausen, spokesperson for Blue Springs police, said the barber shop does not have surveillance cameras, but investigators are checking nearby businesses for possible camera footage of the property damage. The intersection of U.S. 40 and M-7 is one of city's busiest.
Dachenhausen said the barber shop has never reported similar issues before. In fact, she said, over the past few years police haven't received any reports of racially based property damage.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Blue Springs police at 816-228-0151, local law enforcement, or the TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477.
