Centerpoint Medical Center, an HCA Midwest Health facility in Independence, announced this week that it is the first Eastern Jackson County hospital to receive the newest and most advanced da Vinci surgical system, the Xi, which improves upon the minimally invasive, robot-based surgical method.

The da Vinci surgical system, designed as an alternative to large-incision abdominal surgeries, has been used by some metro area hospitals for years. Another HCA Midwest Health facility, Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, was the first to have the da Vinci Xi.

“The addition of the da Vinci Xi to our surgical program supports Centerpoint Medical Center's long-term growth vision,” Centerpoint CEO David Williams said in a news release. “As part of our overall robust capital improvement, like the current expansion project, leading-edge technology like the da Vinci Xi and innovation are integral as we lay the foundation for enhanced patient experience.”

Centerpoint is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of a $59-million expansion.
