Independence police say an aggravated assault case from Monday night has been closed because the shooting victim declined to press charges.

Police responded at 10:20 p.m. Monday to the 500 block of Sundown Drive, in the area of Sterling 24 Apartments. They learned a subject had been shot and fled the area in a vehicle with another occupant. Shortly after, police found a vehicle matching the given description at U.S. 24 and Parker Avenue near William Chrisman High School, about 2 miles from the apartments, where it had crashed.

The shooting victim was found there with a wound to his neck and taken to a hospital, police said, but no suspects were in custody that night, and the victim refused to press any charges.
