A man who allegedly stole a landscape company's pickup truck and trailer from a job site in Blue Springs led police on a chase Thursday morning that wound through Independence and into northeast Kansas City.

The male suspect, the lone person in the truck, was taken into custody with no injuries after the chase ended in the area of Gladstone Boulevard and Topping Avenue in Kansas City at about 9:14 a.m., according to Blue Springs police.

Police were called at 8:46 a.m. about the truck and trailer, which belonged to Heritage Landscape, stolen from Blue Springs Park. The trailer had mowing equipment on it when it was stolen. Officers spotted the vehicle less than five minutes later on westbound Interstate 70 and attempted to pull it over, but the suspect instead tried to speed away.

The ensuing chase went onto 39th Street in Independence, north on Lee's Summit Road, west on 23rd Street and later U.S. 24, and then into Kansas City on U.S. 24. Twice in Independence officers used spike strips on the truck, which had no tires left by the time the chase ended.

No injuries were reported, police said, and charges are pending.
