Lee's Summit police have a suspect in custody and have located the vehicle involved in connection with a hit-and-run accident that injured a female pedestrian Wednesday morning.

The accident happened between 6:50 and 7:20 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Northeast Lakewood Way near Moss Point Road, between U.S. 40 and Bowlin Road. The victim was walking beside the road when she was struck by a southbound vehicle, and the impact threw her to the shoulder, where she was discovered by a passing motorist and a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The victim, who also was southbound, was known to frequently walk in the area.

The vehicle left a broken headlight and headlight fragments, helping investigators narrow it down to a new model Ford van.

Police said the victim remained hospitalized Thursday in serious but stable condition, with multiple fractures. The case remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
