The Colbern Road Branch of Mid-Continent Public Library is offering the following activities for the month of February. The library is located at 1000 N.E. Colbern Road in Lee's Summit. All activities are free, but registration is required, call 816-525-9924.

Free Tax Help for Seniors: Beginning at 10 a.m. Thursdays and Fridays. AARP Tax-Aide representatives will be at the Library to assist seniors with moderate to low incomes with tax questions and tax return preparation. No farm returns or rental properties, please. Time listed indicates starting time of appointments. Call for an appointment.

Life is Like a Box of Crayons: For adults, 7 p.m. Feb. 1. Whether you stay in the lines or venture outside them, coloring is credited with lowering stress and anxiety in adults, promoting greater self-esteem and awareness, as well as encouraging creativity and personal expression. No artistic ability is required.

Puppets and Pjs: For ages 3 and older, 7 p.m. Feb. 1. Put on your pajamas, and come enjoy a new tradition at the library – a bedtime puppet show! Fun for the whole family.

Exploring Our New Website: For adults, 7 p.m. Feb. 5; 2 p.m. Feb. 26. The new MCPL website is more than just our online catalog. Come learn about the new features and personalized experience available at

Craft Group: For adults, 2 p.m. Feb. 4; 1 p.m. Feb. 6 and 20. Creating your own works of art is one of the best ways to express yourself and share good will. Join us to meet new people, create new items, and even learn a thing or two. Quilt, knit, scrapbook, crochet, and more!

Stuffed Animal Sleepover: For all ages, drop off at 9 a.m. Feb. 7; event is 7 p.m. Feb. 8. The Library’s stuffed animals invite your stuffed friends to a sleepover at their house. Drop off your friend at the Library the day before. Then come back the next day for a special program featuring a slideshow of their overnight adventures. Dolls and other toys are also welcome. One toy per child, please.

Play and Learn Time: For ages 3 and older, 10 a.m. Feb. 9 and 23. Enjoy a special preschool playtime that is designed to stimulate young minds and strengthen early literacy skills. We offer stimulating and fun activities as well as an opportunity to meet other preschoolers and their parents.

Blind Date with a Book: For adults, 7 p.m. Feb. 12. What a mystery it will be! What book will you take home? Anything is possible on a blind date (with a book)! Come join us for bookish fun, prizes, and snacks.

Kids Lab: For ages 6 and older, 7 p.m. Feb. 12. Discover how you can bring science and technology to life.

ACT Practice Test with College Tutors: For teens, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Feb. 17. Mid-Continent Public Library is partnering with College Tutors to provide free ACT practice tests. These practice tests are designed to give each student an assessment of where they might score on the real ACT. The only requirement is to bring a pencil and a scientific calculator. Composite scores will be provided to each student within five days.

Interior Design Trends for 2018: For adults, 7 p.m. Feb. 20. Join interior designer Lisa Holiman for a look at this year’s design trends and see how you can translate them into your spaces without spending tons of money.

Podcast Discussion Group: For adults, 7 p.m. Feb. 21. Don’t know where to find your next favorite podcast? Want to start listening to podcasts but don’t know where to start? Join us for a monthly discussion of three to five podcast episodes centered on the same theme.

Kid Fest: For ages 6 and older, 2 p.m. Feb. 25. Party with us—there’s always room for more!
