Citizens are invited to offer public feedback as part of the upcoming process for the Blue Springs Police Department to gain national accreditation.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies will host a public hearing at 5:30 p.m., March 7, at the Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building. Representatives from police departments in Bowling Green, Ohio, and Naperville, Illinois, will conduct the on-site assessment.
The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services. The assessors will review documentation, interview individuals and visit areas where compliance with standards can be observed.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency members and the public are invited to offer comments to assessors by calling 816-250-4544 from 1-3 p.m., March 6. Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. Copies of those standards are available at the Blue Springs Police Department in the Public Safety Building (1100 SW Smith St., Blue Springs) or by contacting accreditation manager Teri Sandlin at 816-622-4295.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments can send them to: Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Gainesville, VA 20155.
