A train hit a car stuck on the railroad tracks Sunday night in northeastern Jackson County, but there were no injuries, as all occupants had gotten out of the car.

The accident happened shortly before 10:45 p.m., Sunday, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, when an eastbound freight train struck a car on the crossing next to the intersection of Courtney-Atherton Road and Curtis Road, near Atherton. The car had gone partially off Courtney-Atherton and got hung up on the tracks before the train was approaching, a sheriff's spokesperson said. The train was able to continue its trip after the car was removed from the track.
