The Brain Injury Association will host its annual Survivor and Family Seminar – Western Missouri from 8:15 a.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, located at 4500 Little Blue Pkwy., Independence. The seminar will feature experts in the field of brain injury, as well as survivors of brain injury and their families sharing experiences and lessons learned about life with brain injury.
The Seminar begins with Brain Injury 101, a session for individuals and families recently impacted by brain injury, or those who are years post-injury with unanswered questions. Next, a session on Behavior Following Brain Injury will be presented, offering helpful strategies for persons with brain injury and family members to recognize and manage changes in behavior and adjust to their new life with brain injury.
A Let’s Talk session is scheduled with two facilitated discussion groups for survivors and families to reflect on the physical, cognitive, emotional, sensory, and mental health changes that may result from brain injury.
Other sessions include a workshop of So Many Questions, which explores options related to post-injury healthcare, rehabilitation services, guardianship, and financial options for individuals with special needs. Healthy Me, Fighting Fatigue, and Stress Management sessions will provide tips to improve daily health and wellness.
