Tax oversight groups report to Independence council
The Independence City Council heard semi-annual reports from citizen oversight committees and commissions Monday, with positive reviews all round.
Representatives from five groups reported that revenue generated from dedicated tax revenues had been spent appropriately and programs have been executed as planned for fiscal year 2017-18.
Delivering reports were: Chris Rohrs for the Public Safety Sales Tax Oversight Committee (police and fire); Gloria Smith for the Street Improvement Oversight Committee; Zach Gall for the Independence Park Commission; Jim Allen for the Independence Tourism Commission; and Scott Smith for the Stormwater Sales Tax Oversight Committee.
EXCHANGE STUDENTS: Foreign exchange students at the Independence high schools introduced themselves at Monday's council meeting and thanked the city for its support of the AFS program that makes foreign exchanges possible. All but two of the 12 exchange students were present, and they hail from Brazil, Germany, Norway, Argentina, Slovakia, Japan, Chile, Thailand, Italy and France.
