Two seniors from Fort Osage High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

• Maya Baughn is in the National Honor Society and has won the F.O.R.C.E. Award, the Alex Merithew Award for Scholar Bowl and honorable mention in the Kindest Kansas Citian essay contest. She’s a winner in All Fort Osage and Missouri Scholar, and she’s a UMKC summer scholar.

She’s been active in Scholar Bowl all four years of high school as well as cross country and track, and Health Occupations Students of America, of which she is the president this year.

She plans to attend the University of Missouri-Kansas City this fall and possibly major in biology, and then earn a master’s degree,

She is the daughter of Domenick Baughn and Jayne Summers.

• Dexter Wickham has won the F.O.R.C.E. and M.U.G. awards. He’s been in the Math Club and in Scholar Bowl.

He plans to attend Emory University in Atlanta to earn a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and go on to earn an PhD in math as well.
