Jackson County Parks & Recreation is holding its 37th annual Kids Fishing Derby for kids between the ages of 2 to 15, on May 5, at Lake Jacomo in Fleming Park, 9201 Beach Road, Lee’s Summit. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the fishing contest from 9 to 11 a.m.
New this year, every child that registers for the Derby will receive a free fishing rod and reel combo courtesy of Pure Fishing. Prizes of fishing tackle and sporting goods have been donated by local merchants. Every child that catches a fish will win a prize. In addition to the Derby, children may participate in a Casting Contest sponsored by the Optimist Club of Lake Lotawana.
In addition to Jackson County Parks & Recreation and the Optimist Club of Lake Lotawana, this family-friendly free event is also sponsored by the Missouri Trout Fisherman’s Association.
