Blue Springs area members of Beta Sigma Phi celebrated the 87th anniversary Founder’s Day at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs on April 29. Decorations followed a “May Day” theme. Guests were met with a colorful May pole at the front door. Table centerpieces were floral-topped may poles, and a large paper sculpture floral frame provided a beautiful backdrop for pictures.

Council 2nd Vice President/Founder’s Day Chairman Joyce Barron gave a special welcome to pledges and guests. Following the Beta Sigma Phi Grace led by Catherine Keil, lunch was served, followed by a fabulous spring fashion show coordinated by Gennessee Norland that was enjoyed by all. With stunning hair and makeup by Sarah Smith and Linda Woods, Crystal Arrowsmith, Charla Marriott, Shirley Cornwell, Barb Gondran, Sally Jo Marquis, Maia Greger, Dee Coop, Gloria Green, Theresa Chavez, Maria Hanlon, Andrea Mynatt, Marilyn Harvey, Linda Wood, Ann Abrams, and Alicia Moeller modeled fashions from Cato in Blue Springs. Beautiful jewelry was provided by Joe and Maria Hanlon of Safire Blue Skies Jewelry. Runway music was provided by Braxton Hedgewood.

Celebrating 50 years of membership in Beta Sigma Phi, Sally Jo Marquis received the Golden Circle Ritual, officiated by Bebe Bartholomew. Assisting with this special award were Judi Eckert, Cheryl Freeman-Kongorski, Gloria Green, Dianne Plumberg, Michelle Daley, and Sue Daley.

For outstanding service to their chapters, the following members received the Woman of the Year award: Alpha Eta Mu – Donna Young and Andrea Mynatt; Alpha Eta Omicron – Ronie Trowbridge; Alpha Eta Sigma – Maia Greger; Pi Lambda – Tamie Donaldson; Preceptor Gamma Epsilon – Nancy Brown; Laureate Delta Alpha – Lana Thurmon; Gamma Theta Master – Joyce Barron; and Torchbearer Pi – Amey Vanderslice.

The Founder’s’ Day Pledge was led by Loy Comer. The “Message from Laura Ross Wingfield,” President, Beta Sigma Phi Executive Council, was read by Cora Collins who announced the 2018-19 annual theme, “A Quilt of Friendship.” The Opening Ritual was led by Marilyn Harvey, and the Closing Ritual by Judi Eckert.

Retiring Council President Pam Long received a gift in appreciation of her leadership. She thanked her executive board for their dedication which made this past year a grand success:

Plans are underway for the sorority’s four annual events, the Fall Fun Fest Parade in September, the Preferential Tea in October, the Valentine Dance, and Founder’s Day in April.
