East Forty Brewing owner David Mann wore a wide smile last Wednesday evening as he cut the ribbon in front of his downtown Blue Springs establishment.

The brewery opened June 14 and has already participated in the city’s Brew & Chew and Corks & Canvases events.

On Wednesday guests took advantage of drink specials, Mann shared the journey behind opening East Forty Brewing and his vision.

“Our theme is local,” Mann said.

The neighborhood hangout features Mann’s original brews, as well as beers and wines from other area providers. Soon, Mann hopes to add his own cider to the tap list. There’s also a limited food menu.

The event drew in community supporters such as Downtown Alive’s executive director Pam Buck, Chamber of Commerce members and City Council leaders.

“Here’s one thing I have that other mayors can’t brag about,” Mayor Carson Ross mused. “I have an IPA brew dedicated to me on the website.”
