A Platte County jury earlier this week found an Independence man guilty of raping a woman he met on a dating website two years ago.

Bradley Everhart, 31, was found guilty Tuesday following a two-day trial, and the jury deliberated less than two hours. He faces a minimum of five years in prison, with no maximum sentence. Probation is not permitted.

Everhart and the victim had met on the dating site Plenty of Fish and had texted each other prior to meeting one evening in August 2016 at his Platte County home. According to the prosecutor's office, the victim testified that after they started watching a movie, Everhart used his weight to restrain her, and she tried shoving him off and continually said “no” and “stop.” Everhart said the victim did fight back.

Everhart begged the victim not to say anything, fearing he would never see his girls again, and texted her more than 60 times in an hour. After the victim fled the home, she went to a hospital and also talked to police. An examination revealed Everhart's DNA and injuries from rape. Police arrested Everhart at an Independence apartment, where he had moved after the crime.
