Independence Police shot and wounded a person who allegedly produced a gun while being chased by officers following a stop Tuesday evening on the city's eastern border.
John Syme, IPD public information officer, said officers had pulled over a car about 8:30 p.m. near Oak Hill Cluster and Missouri 7, where the Harvest Hills residential area is south of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. The car's driver jumped out and ran and allegedly displayed a gun, at which point at least one officer shot him.
The driver was taken to the hospital, and there was no update on his condition Tuesday night. No officers were injured in the incident.
