William Bryant Elementary School in the Blue Springs School District has earned a spot on the list of eight Missouri schools recently honored with Blue Ribbon status by the U.S. Department of Education.
A Blue Ribbon School must be in the state’s top 15 percent academically, as determined by test scores and graduation rates, or display strong academic performance while serving a high percentage of disadvantaged students.
“Our William Bryant community – our parents and our staff and our students – have been working really hard to empower our kids to be learners and leaders,” said principal Jennifer Alderman. “Through that, we continue to succeed as a school, and we’re excited to celebrate this great honor together.”
This honor follows recognition of William Bryant Elementary, 1101 S.E. Sunnyside School Road, as a Gold Star School earlier this year. The program has the same standards as Blue Ribbon.
Other Blue Ribbon Schools included Lake Road Elementary in Poplar Bluff, Kingston Elementary, Nashua Elementary in North Kansas City, Richland Elementary, Willard Elementary, Leeton Elementary and Nike Elementary in Meramec.
Representatives from the Blue Ribbon Schools have been invited to attend the national awards ceremony next month in Washington, D.C.
