The City of Independence Environmental Health Division conducts inspections anywhere food is handled, prepared and served to the public within city limits. Critical violations must be handled within 72 hours.

Discount Smokes & Liquor, 9935 E. Truman Road – On Oct. 18, the ice machine and soda fountains were not being kept clean, there was no sanitized water available at the food prep area, and the floors were heavily soiled with garbage and food debris.

Outback Steakhouse, 20000 E. Valley View Pkwy. – On Oct. 19, Inspectors found ready-to-eat potentially hazardous food had no date or the time/temperature combination was exceeded.

Thai Kitchen, 19321 E. U.S. 40 – On Oct. 19, the kitchen staff was observed eating in both the ware washing area and the food prep area. The hand sink behind the front counter was being used as a dump sink, and there was no sanitizer solution available on the cook line.

Ennovation Center, 201 N. Forest Ave. – On Oct. 22, utensils and measuring devices were not in good repair and calibration low temperature dish washer had a heavy lime build-up inside. The roller on the small Doyon dough roller was not being kept clean. Faucets at the prep sinks in all kitchens are not sufficient.

Mama Garden, 4000 S. Noland Road – On Oct. 23, inspectors found ice in the food on the wok buffet. Cutting boards and glass racks must be smooth and free of damage crevices and accessible for cleaning. Single-service and single use articles may not be reused; there was extensive re-use of Kikoman soy sauce containers for washing floors, sweet and sour sauce, water chestnuts etc. The knife magnet and utensils were not being kept clean and dishes were being stored dirty in the clean area.

Minit Mart, 17600 E. 39th St. S. – On Oct. 23, poisonous/toxic materials were not stored separately away from food equipment.

Minit Mart, 11109 E. 23rd St. – On Oct. 23, the pizza prep cutting board was not being kept clean and the hand sink on the coffee bar was leaking.

Mugs Up Diner, 10921 E. Winner Road – On Oct. 25, The prep cooler was 50 degrees.
