The Preferential Tea for the Beta Sigma Phi City Council of Independence was held Oct. 28, represented by nine chapters and 66 members.

Guest speaker Cynthia Meadows of Beta Sigma Phi International Headquarters of Kansas City explained the new program, which allows members to find previous members within a 25-mile radius of their home to help other rejoin and reconnect with Beta Sigma Phi. Like quilt pieces or puzzle pieces, Meadows encouraged the group the need to be a part of something to be fulfilled.

Recognition of Pledges, Transferees and Progressions were:

• Xi Xi Sigma – Exemplars: Lorna Hill, Sherry Schowengerdt. Preceptor Degree: Shirley Riggs, Nancy Fisher.

• Preceptor Alpha – Rituals of Jewels: Mary Pace. Exemplars: Melissa Burt, Pam Garcia. Preceptor: Cindy Parkes.

• Preceptor Iota – New Pledge: Barbara Lala.

• Preceptor Theta Eta – Reinstated member: Sharon Engelman.

• Beta Omega Master – Ritual of Jewels: Debbie Ginavan. Order of the Rose: Marlene Deal. Master Degree: Nancy Owens.

• Gamma Master – New Pledge: Kim Patel.

• Gamma Omicron Master – Transferee: Cathy Baker/

• Torchbearer Sigma (new chapter progression previously Alpha Omega Master) – Golden Circle: Ramona Evans and Barbara Taylor, and Sherry Hohenberg with a 25-year pin.
