Two seniors from Truman High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.
• Malachi Fuimaono is a member of the National Honor Society and was on the principal's honor roll in middle school. He has earned academic letters, choir letters and bars, the director's award for eighth-grade orchestra, and eighth-grade academic awards.
He is involved in chamber orchestra, TruTones, the school musical and Relay for Life.
He has participated in Boy Scouts and will become an Eagle Scout next year. He is involved in activities with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has worked at Worlds of Fun.
He plans to attend Metropolitan Community College to take advantage of the A-plus program, and wants to become a movie score composer.
He is the son of Tuli and Mary Fuimaono.
• Becca Gilpin was named all-conference honorable mention for basketball.
She is involved in marching band, basketball, student council, TruCrew and French club.
Outside of school, she is involved in basketball, babysitting and work.
She plans to attend college on a basketball scholarship and major in elementary education. She wants to become a kindgergarten teacher.
She is the daughter of Chris and Michele Gilpin.
