Two seniors at Truman High School and one at Van Horn High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

• David Krantz at Van Horn has lettered in football, wrestling and track and field. He plans to go into the military or go into the building industry.

• Addy Simpson at Truman is a McCoy Award winner, has lettered in academics, and is in the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. She took first place in National History Day districts. She has played varsity soccer, and she’s in Earth First (an environmental club) and the Spanish Club.

She plays club soccer, is in a church youth group, volunteers at Harvesters, does babysitting and has interned with the Kansas City Comets.

She plans to attend Graceland University and play soccer, majoring in sociology and minoring in Spanish.

She is the daughter of Brett and Joy Simpson.

• Kyler Barnett is a McCoy Award winner, is in the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society, has lettered in academics twice, is a two-time Examiner All-Area baseball team member honorable mention and all-conference honorable mention. He’s on the executive board of the Spanish Club. He plays club baseball, umpires softball games and volunteers with the Exceptionals.

He plans to play baseball in college and major in digital marketing with the goal of working in that field for the Disney Company.

He is the son of Jennifer and Jeff Barnett.
