Two seniors at William Chrisman High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.
• Maureen Hennessy is a McCoy Award winner and is in the National Honor Society. She’s all-district in band and has earned superior ratings at the Mizzou for State Music Contest and superior ratings at the Junior Music Festival for piano. She’s in the marching band and choir, runs cross country, plays varsity soccer and is in theater and art.
She’s in the St. Mark’s youth group, serves meals at the Stone Church community meal and works at Hy-Vee.
She plants to attend Central Methodist University to study education in either music or elementary.
She is the daughter of Michael and Molly Hennessy.
• Dawson Herl is a McCoy Award winner, has made the honor roll in all four years of high school, is on the student council and is in DECA, a business organization for students.
He has lettered in football all four years and was named all-league quarterback in his junior and senior seasons. Chrisman won the league championship during his sophomore season, the first time since 1964.
He has lettered each year in basketball and was first-team all-conference, first-team all area and all district. He played baseball as a freshman and plans to play this year. He has played in the KC Pacers AAU basketball team.
He has served meals at the Stone Church community dinner, helped at Harvesters, participated in the citywide cleanup day, is in the youth organization at St. Mark’s Catholic Church and for the last two years at the Santa-Cali-Gon Days festival hauling Pepsi to vendors with his dad, Independence Superintendent Dale Herl.
He plans to attend Missouri Southern State University, majoring in business administration and minoring in international business. He also plans to play football.
He is the son of Becky and Dale Herl.
