Two seniors at Truman High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.
• Karli Raines is an academic letter winner, a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Spanish Club. She’s in Starsteppers, is on the Student Council, is in TrueCrew and is in the Spanish Club.
She’s in competitive dance and enjoys spending time with friends and family.
She plans to attend college and become an interior designer, and she plans to continue dancing.
She is the daughter of Mary and Darin Raines.
• Onyekaorise Chigbogwu is a McCoy Award winner, is an academic letter winner and has been elected president of the National Honor Society. He’s in band, choir, debate and theater, and he’s on the Student Council. He’s in the French Club, FCA, the Key Club and the Case Club.
He’s worked on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year campaign, been a chairman for the Eastern Jackson County Relay for Life, has been to Missouri Boys State and is in a church band.
He is still deciding on a major in college and is looking at medicine, political science and film studies, and he’s applied to Washington University in St. Louis, Northwestern, Brown and Colorado College.
He’s the son of Franka and Godwin Chigbogwu.
