The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin long-term lane closures Sunday for its two-year project to reconfigure the interchange at Interstate 70 and I-435 just west of the stadiums.

At about 7 a.m. Sunday, crews plan to close the eastbound I-70 loop ramp to northbound I-435 as well as the eastbound I-70 ramp to Manchester Trafficway. Both closures had been scheduled for later in the week. The signed detour from eastbound I-70 is U.S. 40 starting near 31st Street to northbound I-435.

On Monday beginning at 9 a.m., crews plan to close the Manchester Trafficway ramps to westbound I-70 and eastbound I-70. These ramps will be closed until December 2020

On Tuesday, starting at 9 a.m. until about 3 p.m., crews will have various lane closures along north and southbound Manchester so they can reconfigure the off ramps from I-70.

On Wednesday, beginning at 8 p.m., crews will close the westbound I-70 loop ramp to southbound I-435. The detour will use westbound I-70 to Manchester to turn around on eastbound I-70 to southbound I-435. Both I-70 loop ramps to I-435 will be closed until approximately December 2020.

Also, from 8 p.m. Wednesday to about 5 a.m. Thursday there will be a double-lane closure along westbound I-70 from Stadium Drive to Manchester.

On Thursday, beginning at 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m., there could be various single-lane closures along westbound I-70, as crews will be installing a temporary barrier along the highway. During the same time frame, crews will close the right lane of westbound I-70 in the area.

From 7 p.m. Thursday to about 5 a.m. Friday, crews will have various single-lane closures along southbound I-435 in the area.

The $47 million project is to last two full construction seasons, MoDOT said, and will include removing the left exit ramps from I-435 to I-70. They will be replaced by longer flyover ramps from the right that loop out and overtop I-435 to enter I-70. Also, the I-435 bridges will be replaced and brought closer together.

MoDOT estimates about 120,000 vehicles use I-70 and 100,000 use I-435 at the interchange.
