Two seniors at William Chrisman High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.
• Mauricio D. Espinosa is a McCoy Award winner and has a congressional nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy. He is involved in speech and debate, and he runs varsity cross country. He’s in the U.S. Marine Corps delayed-entry program.
He plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island with the Class of 2020 and then attend the U.S. Naval Academy for four years, majoring in naval architecture and engineering, and graduating with the Class of 2024. He would then be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marines.
He is the son of Jeanna Bartosik.
• Erica Figley is a McCoy Award winner and a member of the National Honor Society. She plays the violin in the orchestra and plays golf. She’s in the ACE club, the A-Plus program, the woodshop club and S.A.D.D.
She works at Papa Murphy’s.
She plans to attend the University of Central Missouri to study architecture or interior design.
She is the daughter of Heather and Eric Figley.
