1 Kansas City Mavericks – Playoff hockey is intense in the minor leagues as well. After splitting the first two games on the road, the Mavericks won at home Wednesday and still have home games Friday and Saturday against the Tulsa Oilers at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Both games are at 7:05 p.m., and tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or the arena box office.

2 Kite festival – Metropolitan Community College's Flights of Fancy Mega Kite Festival is Saturday at MCC-Longview in western Lee's Summit. The free event lasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the public is invited to bring and fly their own kites at designated fields. Kites will also be available for purchase, and Great American Kites & Events will have a professional display featuring mega kites, power kites, stunt kikes and the world's largest windsock at 200 feet. There will be available picnic space and food and drink vendors. The campus is on Southwest Longview Road off View High Drive.

3 Native plant sale – The Missouri Prairie Foundation will host a native plant sale 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday at the Anita Gorman Discovery Center, 4750 Troost Ave., Kansas City, just north of the UMKC campus. A variety of native plants suitable for shade, partial shade, sun, dry, or moist conditions from several vendors will be available. Vendors at this sale include: Missouri Wildflowers Nursery, Gaylena's Garden, Taylor Creek Restoration Nursery and Green Thumb Gardens.

4 Moon hike – Reserve your spot for Friday night's full moon hike at George Owens Nature Park, 1601 S. Speck Road. The hike is 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. as the pink moon rises at 8:25 p.m. The hike is led by park staff and is on paved trails that are stroller- and wheelchair-accessible. Hikes are limited to the first 15 participants and tend to fill up, so reserve your spot by 5 p.m. today. Call 816-325-7115.

5 Becoming the Easter Bunny – 11 a.m. Saturday, Blue Springs South branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library, 2220 S. Missouri 7. Listen to “The Story of the Easter Bunny,” by Katherine Brown Tegen.
