Two seniors at Truman High School and one senior at WIlliam Chrisman High School have been honored by the Rotary Club of Independence as students of the month.

• Kaylie Ann Simonds, from Truman High School, is a student council and National Arts Honors Society member, as well as a four-year varsity basketball player. As well as playing competitive basketball, she works at MMT Technology, Inc.

She plans on attending the University of St. Mary to play basketball while majoring in art. She additionally plans on receiving her master’s degree in secondary education.

She is the daughter of Laura L. Simonds and Jason R. Simonds.

• Brad Lee Browning Jr., from Truman High School is a four-year varsity athlete in track and field and a two-year varsity athlete in football. He is also a student council member.

Outside of school he works at QuikTrip and as a lifeguard at Adventure Oasis. He plans on attending college to run track and field at either Northwest Missouri State University or Missouri Western University. He plans on majoring in business management.

Browning is the son of Diana Browning and Brad Browning Sr.

• Jennifer Soendker, from William Chrisman High School, is a McCoy Award recipient and a member of the National Honor Society. She is active in the Youth Advisory Council, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Health Occupations Students of American, the Blue and Gold Honor Choir and Concert Chorale.

Outside of school she is active in the East Independence Church of Christ youth group and congregation.

She has been accepted into the University of Central Missouri and will major in nursing. She plans to earn her master’s after graduation to become a nurse practitioner.

She is the daughter of Marcheta and Dwayne Soendker.
