The Central Jackson County Fire Protection District will host its second annual open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Steve Westermann Fire and EMS Education Facility, 4715 W. U.S. 40, Blue Springs.

The free event will include fire trucks, ambulances, police cars and other equipment on display, with auto extrication demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. There will also be activities such as the children's combat challenge, in which they can do a test similar to what firefighters must pass, as a picture station where they can dress in fire gear for pictures.

The CJC Fire Protection District includes most of Blue Springs and Grain Valley, some unincorporated areas of Eastern Jackson County and Lake Tapawingo.
