Childers graduates from Cedarville

Bryce Childers of Lee’s Summit graduated from Cedarville University with a bachelor of science degree in molecular and cellular biology during the university’s graduation ceremony on May 4.

 

Local students earn degrees at Nebraska

Four area students were among a record number of graduates at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s graduation ceremony on May 3:

• Shannon Noel Humiston of Blue Springs earned a bachelor of fine arts degree.

• Catherine Elizabeth Orel of Blue Springs earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

• Reece Alan Eddins of Lee’s Summit earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

• Ethan James Frazier of Lee’s Summit earned a bachelor of science degree in environmental studies with high distinction.

 

Simpson earns scholarship, honor society placement

Victoria Simpson of Independence was recognized for her academic achievements in Graceland University’s English department, earning second place for best paper, with her contribution titled, “The Correlation Between Mind and Nature.” Second place came with the Ruch Scholarship, which totaled $200.

Simpson was also inducted into the university’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, an honor society for English majors.

 

Baldus inducted into National Society of Leadership and Success

Central Methodist University student Carlie Baldus, from Blue Springs, was recently inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success. Students are selected based on either academic standing and/or leadership potential. Baldus is a sophomore majoring in nursing.

Graceland students earn art awards

Area students were named as award winners in the Department of Art Annual 2019 Juried Student Art Exhibition. Graceland students entered works in two-dimensional art, sculpture and graphic design.

• Grace Jeffries of Blue Springs was recognized as an honorable mention for the Les Wight Painting Award for "Abstracts Reimagined," the Les Wight Mixed Media Award for "Your Fragile Ego," the winner of the Jeannie Davis Memorial Fund, and as a Shannon Scholarship recipient.

• Nicole Snider of Independence was recognized as the Les Wight Drawing Award winner for "Nameless Women."

• Grace Wayman of Blue Springs was recognized as the Aaron Engle Ceramic Award winner for "Octopot," as the Shannon Best of Show Award winner for "Life on Odd Places," and as a Shannon Scholarship recipient.

 

Local students initiated into Phi Kappa Phi

Spencer Fry of Blue Springs and Mallory Snyder of Independence have been initiated in the the honor society Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

 

Boyles graduates from McKendree University

Christian Boyles of Blue Springs graduated from McKendree University with a degree in sociology. The university held its 179th commencement exercises on May 11.

 

Three from area honored at Nazarene University

Elayna Bostwick of Independence, Jose Enamorado of Independence and Taylor Kreissler of Blue Springs has been named to the spring semester honor roll at MidAmerica Nazarene University.

 

Students inducted into honor society

Spencer Fry of Blue Springs and Mallory Snyder of Independence were both initiated into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

 

Uptegrove earns BA in communication

Connor Uptegrove of Blue Springs earned a bachelor's degree in communication from Coastal Carolina University during its commencement ceremonies May 10-11.

 

Smith on dean’s list at Belmont University

Liberty Smith of Blue Springs qualified for the spring dean's list at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
